Lyme Regis businesses earn plastic-free award

SIX Lyme Regis businesses have earned the prestigious Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) award for plastic free communities.

Red PandaThe Galley Kitchen, Red Panda, Amid Giants and Idols, Lyme's Fish Bar, Baboo Gelato and Swim are the first businesses in the town to ban three single-use plastic items in their businesses.

The items have been replaced with more environmentally friendly alternatives, making them eligible for the SAS award.

The awards were presented to the six businesses by Grenville Barr, chairman of the strategic group for Plastic Free Lyme Regis, an initiative of Turn Lyme Green.

The SAS awards are part of Turn Lyme Green’s initiative for Plastic Free Lyme Regis.

Grenville said: “This is a significant milestone for us in recognising key businesses whoLyme's Fish Bar have made changes and contributed towards Lyme Regis achieving ‘Plastic Free Communities’ status.

“Our work continues with other businesses as they source alternative products to use and we engage in the community and with local schools to raise awareness about the alternatives to consumption of single use plastics.”
