The Guildhall

The-GuildhallThe history of The Guildhall can be traced back as far as the Stuart period.  The main Chamber with it's curved ceiling and coat of arms was once the local court and the main body of the building including the Mayor's Parlour was built in 1887 on the site of the town's lock-up.

Civil Marriage and partnership ceremonies in The Guildhall take place in the main Chamber with the views out across the seafront providing the perfect backdrop to your day, whatever the season.

As of 29 March 2014 we are able to offer same sex marriages.

If you are contemplating holding your ceremony in The Guildhall, you are welcome to visit the Guildhall to discuss your requirements.  Please contact the Town Council office on (01297) 445175 to make arrangements.  Viewings are available Monday - Friday between 10am and 4pm when The Guildhall is not in use.  It is not possible to arrange a viewing on a Saturday or Sunday.

About the Guildhall

Guildhall-ChamberThe main Chamber can seat a maximum of 75 guests (65 if you require use of the lift). A lift is available to take guests directly from the small car park to the Chamber.

The small Guildhall car park can hold up to two cars involved in the ceremony as we also provide parking for the Registrars.

If you would like to add floral decorations to The Guildhall for your ceremony, please contact us in advance to make arrangements for this.

Confetti is allowed outside of the building as long as it is biodegradeable.  Sequin confetti is not allowed.  Please help us to protect our environment.

Flash photography is allowed inside The Guildhall

No food or drink may be consumed or purchased inside The Guildhall.

You are welcome to provide music to be played during your ceremony.  You will be asked to advise the Registrars of your music choices in advance and we ask that you provide us with a CD or USB with your music at least three weeks prior to the ceremony to ensure that it is compatible with our system.  We will take care of playing the music during the ceremony for you.

You are able to have access to The Guildhall half and hour before your ceremony, but we kindly ask that you and your guests vacate The Guildhall when reasonably possible at the end your ceremony as we often have more than one ceremony in the day and will need to set up for the next couple.
