Lyme Regis Town Council helped set the scene for the town’s annual pantomime.
Lyme Regis Pantomime Society performed its 2018 show, Sleeping Beauty, to audiences at the Woodmead Halls.
The mayor, Cllr Michaela Ellis, attended the opening night, when she presented the society with a cheque for £970 on behalf of the council.
The funding was for a new back cloth depicting a palace scene, which was used for the 2018 production and can be used for future shows.
Pantomime society chairman Amanda Rattenbury-Davies said: “The society is so grateful for the support from Lyme Regis Town Council.
“The grant has enabled us to purchase a new back cloth to enhance our productions.
“As a society we have a team of volunteers that work so hard throughout the year to ensure that we go from strength to strength and our shows get better year on year.
“But we couldn't do it without the valuable support we get from grants like this.”
The new back cloth, as well as hired costumes, pyrotechnics and special effects, improved lighting, and microphones for each character have all helped improve the professionalism of the pantomime.
Cllr Ellis said: “Yet again, Lyme Regis Pantomime Society pulled out all the stops to put on a fantastic show for the town.
“The standard gets higher every year and the quality of the costumes, scenery, staging and music was very impressive, not to mention the excellent performances and back-stage support by the whole team.
“The annual pantomime is well-loved by local residents and the town council was pleased to support the society with this grant.”
