Councillors

We have 14 town councillors who represent the whole town and direct the work of the council. They are led by the Mayor, who is also the chairman of the council, and the Deputy Mayor, who is also the vice-chairman of the council.

Our councillors represent the views and concerns of the community to the council and report the activities of the council back to the public. They make themselves available to their constituents and their contact details can be found under each councillor’s profile.

Councillors are elected to serve on the town council for four years, although they may be appointed through by-election or co-option. The current term of office has been extended to five years to align with the new Dorset Council.

Councillors must agree to observe the council’s Code of Conduct. By signing up to the code, councillors agree to act openly and honestly in the public interest.

The members are also required to register their pecuniary, or financial, interests. Each member's declaration of pecuniary interests can be found within their profile.
