Section of beach closed off for replenishment

Please note a section of the beach has been cordoned off today and tomorrow (Tuesday and Wednesday) to continue the replenishment of the sand.

The late storms coupled with high tides thwarted Dorset Council's efforts to replenish Front Beach before the Easter Weekend, although good progress was made.

As the storms carried a lot of sand back to the northern areas of the harbour, further excavations are being carried out to remove newly deposited sand from the beach, back to the beach.

The sand is being deposited in front of the shelf created by the waves.

Marshals are on the beach to keep the public at a safe distance while this work takes place.

We would like to thank Dorset Council for carrying out the work before the peak season and outside of any school holidays, as well as leaving plenty of space on the sand for people to enjoy beach now that the sun has finally come out!
