Lyme Regis town councillor removed from office

A LYME Regis town councillor has automatically been removed from office after failing to attend council meetings for six months.

Tara Webb is no longer a town councillor and her seat on Lyme Regis Town Council will be advertised.

Tara joined the council in May 2021 following a by-election.

Notice of a vacancy will be given by Dorset Council on Friday 27 April and an election will be held if 10 Lyme Regis electors request one within 14 days of the notice.

This means requests for an election must be received by Dorset Council’s returning officer by 22 May 2023.

Town clerk John Wright said: "Tara Webb has failed to attend council meetings for six consecutive months and as such, she automatically ceases to be a member of the council.

"This is outlined in the Local Government Act 1972 and is referred to in the council’s standing orders.

"Tara has been informed she is no longer a councillor and notification has been given to Dorset Council’s electoral services team.”

Requests for an election must be made in writing to the Returning Officer, Electoral Services, Dorset Council, County Hall, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1XJ or by email to elections@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk.

Dorset Council has confirmed if an election is called, a poll will take place no later than 25 July 2023.
