Biography

I wish to thank Lyme residents for electing me to the town council for a second term. I was born and brought up in Lyme and educated at local schools, after which I worked for Rolls Royce and the MoD’s United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, and have also been a long-serving school governor and council chairman.

Lyme is a special place to live and its attraction continues to bring rising numbers of holiday-makers and day-trippers. The impact the seasonal expansion places on the town and the way it functions is significant and has to be balanced with the ongoing needs and interests of Lyme’s residents.

There is an increasing pressure on local government resources at every level. The creation of the new Dorset Council will have its challenges as it aims to live within budget and develops its organisational structure around its planned level of services and support - and also, importantly, determines an effective interaction with town and parish councils.

Lyme Regis Town Council needs to be able to respond to this and the raised demands, and in doing so act fairly and responsibly in serving the needs of those it represents.

Lyme has a fantastic setting and historic legacy; it has matters of the present and needs of the future. I aim to be part of a council that will address today’s issues, weigh future options and endeavour to make effective decisions and best use of its resources; a council that is felt competent by those it interacts with and well-regarded by the residents in whose interests we work.
