Biography

Having just retired after 58 years in journalism, I am anxious to serve the town in which I was born and educated. I have good knowledge of local government having covered council meetings at all levels. I first served on Lyme Regis Town Council for one term in the early 1980s and for one year as Mayor of Lyme Regis in 1984 – still holding the record for the town’s youngest mayor at 34 years old.

I have played a prominent role in most of the major events in Lyme Regis for the past 50 years, including ten years as Regatta & Carnival secretary, organiser of the Lyme 1200 and Charter 750 festivals, organiser of the Lyme Olympic Day and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

I am president of the Lyme Regis branch of the Royal British Legion, president of Lyme Regis Football Club and chairman of the Lyme Regis branch of Cancer Research UK, which has raised in excess of £200,000 since formation in 2008.

I have a passion for all things Lyme and I was awarded the MBE by the Queen in 2018 for services to the community.

In recent times the council has been plagued by internal disputes among members which has brought the town into disrepute. I believe all councillors need to put to one side their differences. The town expects and deserves this.

Lyme is one of the most popular resorts along the south coast and we all need to pull together to preserve and build on that reputation.
