CAR parks, public toilets and other key council services will remain open during the next four weeks of lockdown.
Lyme Regis Town Council will follow the government’s new national restrictions, which will be in effect from 5 November until 2 December.
Town clerk John Wright said: “The government’s guidelines for this period of national restrictions are less restrictive than the first national lockdown in March, and the operation of council services and facilities will reflect this.
“In considering our operations, we have taken full account of the government’s instructions.
“We have acted sensibly to ensure all the guidelines are met, that people can still go about their lives as normally as possible and be able to get much-needed time outdoors for activity and exercise, while also protecting the health and wellbeing of our community and the interests of local businesses.”
The council’s three car parks – Monmouth Beach, Cabanya, and Woodmead – will stay open as travel is permitted for specific reasons, including spending time or exercising outdoors.
The public toilets on Marine Parade and at Anning Road playing field will also stay open, but with social distancing measures in place.
The mini golf and table tennis in Lister Gardens, which are currently only open at weekends, will close for four weeks as the government has ordered certain businesses to close, including outdoor sports facilities.
The council also has to consider the safety of its staff who work at the amenities’ area, and the increased risk to both the staff and public due to the equipment being used and payment being taken.
Cart Road beach huts may continue to be hired out by people living in the local area, but anyone who is unable to visit Lyme Regis due to travel restrictions will be provided with a refund on request.
The government has banned overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences during the lockdown, which means overnight stays in a caravan or chalet will not be allowed.
Weddings and civil partnership ceremonies are not allowed to take place but bookings at the Guildhall will be unaffected as the next ceremony is scheduled for late-December.
Arrangements for funerals remain unchanged, with 30 people being able to attend a service at Lyme Regis Cemetery and the cemetery chapel being available for a very small number of people.
In line with government advice, the Anning Road and Henry’s Way play parks and the Charmouth Road skatepark will all remain open, but users are asked to follow the guidance on social distancing and meeting others safely.
On the advice of the Department for Transport, the number 71 town bus service, which is subsidised by the town council, will continue to operate.
All non-essential retail bookings in the market and performance areas at the Marine Parade Shelters will be cancelled, and the Langmoor and Lister Rooms will remain closed.
As the government has said exercise and activity can continue in certain outdoor public spaces, the beaches, seafront gardens and allotments will all remain open and accessible.
