LYME’S newest town councillor says he is committed to working hard for the town and the people who make it such a special place.
Cllr Neil Hampton-Rumbold was elected uncontested to the town council recently and brings with him a wealth of experience from the military, telecommunications and education.
Cllr Hampton-Rumbold has travelled extensively for his career but said Lyme has always been his home.
He said: “Although I wasn’t born in Lyme Regis, it’s the place I’ve always called home.
“I left Woodroffe School in 1986 to become a chef at the Cobb Arms, before joining the Royal Corps of Signals in 1989. I served for nine years, including deployments to the Gulf War, Northern Ireland, and two tours in Bosnia—one as a UN Peacekeeper.
After leaving the Army in 1998, I moved into telecommunications, working for several ISPs including Virgin Media.”
Cllr Hampton-Rumbold is married to Sarah and they have three children, Alex, 27, who attended Colyton Grammar, Jevan, 20, and Katie, 18, who both went to Woodroffe School.
He said: “I’m currently a Burnham Lecturer, having earned a Computer Science Honours degree and a PGCE in Education.
“Football has always been part of my life—I played for Uplyme and Lyme Regis—and no matter where work or service has taken me, Lyme has always been home.
“As a councillor, I’m committed to working hard for this town and the people who make it such a special place.”
We look forward to welcoming Cllr Hampton-Rumbold to his first meeting with the council.
