Park and ride not operating at Easter due to operational issues

LYME’S park and ride service will not operate during the Easter holidays due to operational issues with the bus company.

The service was due to start on 1 April and run throughout the Easter break.

First Bus was forced to withdraw several days before the service was due to start because of staffing issues and other commitments.

The service, which is managed by Lyme Regis Town Council, operates from a site in Charmouth Road and last year incorporated Charmouth for the first time.

The council is working hard to resolve the issue and hopes to have alternative arrangements in place for the May Bank Holiday.

Deputy town clerk Mark Green said: “Unfortunately, First, the council’s long-standing bus partner for the town’s park and ride service has informed us that it is unable to operate the service for 2023.

“We have gone to nine other potential operators trying to organise a replacement service at short notice.

“We are optimistic that an operator will be secured, and the aim is to have the service up and running from the May Bank Holiday and Coronation weekend.

“Hopefully, the service will continue to operate on a similar basis as in previous years, including the link to Charmouth, introduced last year.

“A further update will be issued in due course.”
