Thieves target parking machines in overnight raid

THIEVES broke into and stole money from car parking machines in Lyme Regis in an overnight raid.

Two machines at Monmouth Beach car park were targeted on Thursday night (20 May), with around £1,600 stolen.

It is believed the incident happened at around 9.55pm.

The car park is owned by Lyme Regis Town Council.

Operations manager Matt Adamson-Drage said: “Two of our ticket machines were drilled and the cash boxes stolen at Monmouth Beach car park.

“They knew what they were doing – they drilled with accuracy at the right spot to release the vault doors.

“We are currently reviewing CCTV in the area and would encourage anyone who saw anything suspicious around that time to contact Dorset Police.”

The machines are still able to take card payments, while the three other machines can take cash and pay-by-phone is available.
