Lyme Regis Town Council has been given advance notice of some changes South Western Railway will be making to late night services on the West of England line for four days at the end of November.
SW Railway will be undertaking an extensive programme of engineering work along the line, part of their efforts to remove speed restrictions linked to Soil Moisture Deficit and so return to a more normal timetable.
A simple summary of the changes, which will take effect from Monday 23 to Thursday 26 November, is as follows:
· The 2020 service from London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids will finish its journey at Yeovil Junction. A connecting bus service will continue to Exeter St Davids.
· The 2212 service from Exeter St Davids to Salisbury will be replaced by a bus service from Exeter St Davids to Yeovil Junction. A connecting train service will continue to Salisbury.
· The 2306 service from Exeter St Davids to Yeovil Junction will be replaced by a bus service.
Last month, the Environment Agency confirmed that parts of the South West, including parts of Devon, Dorset and Somerset, are still in a severe drought.
The agency also informed the National Drought Group that “at least 120% of average rainfall is needed over the next six months for the country to be considered out of drought by the start of spring”.
While it will clearly take some time for the clay embankments to fully regain their moisture and return to normal, South Western Railway are working hard to achieve the track quality needed to safely remove the speed restrictions from Salisbury to Exeter and return to the normal timetable.
