Can you volunteer your time to help support your community? Lyme Link needs YOU!
Following the discontinuation of the former 71 bus service, the town council has proudly launched its very own community transport initiative, Lyme Link.
Powered entirely by the dedication of local volunteers, the 16-seater minibus is already making a real difference, but it needs your help to keep it moving.
The service, which runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (except bank holidays), is not just a bus, it’s a lifeline for some.
For residents who don’t drive or struggle with mobility, it means access to the town centre, doctor’s appointments, essential shops, and most importantly, staying connected to the community.
Ann Fleet, one of the volunteer passenger assistants, said: “The new town bus service is a much-needed service for our town.
“I saw it as an opportunity to do something positive and worthwhile, helping people remain active and engaged in the local community. We are a friendly team, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Whether you have a background in driving, community work, or simply want to make good use of a few free hours a week, this is a flexible and meaningful way to give back.
The service relies on volunteer drivers and passenger assistants, and that means people just like you.
Graham Farrow, one of the volunteer drivers, said: “I’ve lived in Lyme for 18 years. Because of work, I never had the time for community work. Now, it’s nice to give something back. I live in an area of the town where the bus really makes a difference.”
Fellow driver Graham Smith agreed, adding: “We all know somebody nearby who can’t get to town or the doctors without help. This initiative gives them the support they need to stay mobile.
“It’s undoubtedly a good cause, and you meet lots of like-minded people along the way.”
The Lyme Link isn’t just about getting from A to B, it’s about keeping our town accessible and inclusive.
Could you spare a few hours to drive or assist?
We’re looking for more friendly, helpful volunteers to join our team. You’ll be making a direct difference in someone’s life, giving back to the community, and becoming part of something special.
