COBB Road will remain closed this weekend and temporary arrangements have been put in place to access the harbour area.
The road was closed on Monday night as a precautionary measure following a potential landslip onto the highway.
Dorset Council has now issued a formal emergency road closure notice, which confirms the road is likely to remain closed until Friday 6 December.
In the meantime, Lyme Regis Town Council has put temporary measures in place to manage traffic using the Cart Road to access the harbour area.
A 5mph speed limit has been put in place and motorists are being asked to use hazard lights and headlights to minimise the danger.
Two town council employees will be stationed on the Cart Road this weekend to advise motorists to adhere to the measures and to make pedestrians aware.
Road cones have been placed in front of the beach huts to provide a safe area for those using the huts.
All beach hut owners and hirers have been informed of the temporary arrangements and have been asked to take care.
Temporary speed humps have been ordered and these will be placed on the Cart Road early next week to further reduce the speed of vehicles using this route.
