GOOD news for all Lyme’s green-fingered gardeners – the town council is reviving the annual competition for the best floral displays in the town.
The council organised the competition for a number of years up to 2013, during which time the town won several highly-commended certificates as part of the Southwest Britain In Bloom awards.
The council already commits a sizeable budget to its summer floral displays all over the town, which receives many plaudits, especially from our visitors.
To make the town even more attractive, the council is urging residents and businesses to make a special effort next year to make their gardens, hanging baskets and floral displays as attractive as possible.”
Those who would like to take part will be able to apply to be judged through LymeLiving magazine next spring, with judging by a panel of horticultural experts taking place in July 2026.
The categories are as follows:
- All businesses
- Courtyard/patio gardens
- Larger gardens
- Smaller gardens
- Window boxes and containers
- Hanging baskets
- Children’s gardens
The winners and runners-up will receive cash prizes, with certificates to be presented by the mayor at a special ceremony at the Guildhall.
Mayor Cllr Philip Evans commented: “Lyme’s floral awards were very popular in past years and I am delighted to see this initiative being revived.
“There are some wonderful private gardens throughout the town and this a way of thanking them for helping to make the town look so attractive, especially during the summer months.”
