Dorset Council has received an application from South West Water to close Clappentail Lane, Lyme Regis in its entirety.
The closure has been requested to allow South West Water to carry out work to 370m of new pipe and 9 manholes. These works are programmed to commence from 7 December 2026 until 29 January 2027.
This will be a rolling closure and the road will be reopen between 23 December 2026 and 3 January 2027.
South West Water will publicise the road closure in a number of ways: they will place information boards on the road in this area to inform the travelling public of the works; they will carry out a letter drop to local residents directly affected by the works; and they will sign a vehicular diversion route using the local road network.
The following map shows the extent of the closure and the diversion route.

This is for information only, however, if you have any concerns about this proposal, please contact Izzy Rowland: trafficteam@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk by 15 November 2026.
