Please note that Dorset Council intends to carry out emergency repairs to the surface of Cobb Road during the late evening of Wednesday 10 December. These works will take place unless weather conditions make it impossible.
Dorset Council need to carry out maintenance work, in order to carry out the work as safely as possible, the road will need to close to through traffic, below is information which answers some 'frequently asked questions'.
The date and time of the closure has been chosen to try and minimise the impact for businesses, residents and property owners.
Cobb Road will be closed to all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, at 19.30 promptly on 10 December and should be re-opened by 23.30 on the same day.
In an attempt to further reduce the impact of the works for local businesses and others, the Cart Road (along the seafront and in front of the beach huts) will be opened to vehicles from 19.30 for the remainder of the day.
Use of the Cart Road will be subject to an advisory 5 mph speed limit, and we would ask that use of this road is kept to the absolute minimum necessary. We would also ask that larger vehicles avoid using it during this period, unless absolutely necessary.
Given the width of Cart Road and its use by pedestrians, we would urge drivers to exercise extreme caution and to give way to oncoming traffic as required.
Please can businesses encourage their customers or staff to park outside of the area affected by the closure wherever possible in order to minimise the use of the Cart Road.
Notices will also be placed in the Monmouth Beach car park advising users to vacate the car park prior to the closure or to use the Cart Road as an alternative exit after 19.30.
