Behind every successful bowling event is a team of dedicated volunteers, and this year Lyme Regis Bowling Club had plenty to celebrate.
Throughout the season, club members have given their time to welcome hundreds of people onto the green, they introduced bowlers of all ages to the sport while helping to strengthen community connections across the town.
The club hosted 9 special events for local organisations, including Woodroffe School, Explorer Scouts, Lym Valley Cubs, the Boat Building Academy, Rotary Club, RNLI and the Lyme Regis Horticultural Society.
Members also took the sport out into the community, attending events such as the Sporting Lyme ‘Summe of Sport’ launch, the Uplyme Sports Day and the Horticultural Society fete.
Two open days and 15 Saturday taster sessions encouraged residents and visitors to try their hand at bowls, while the clubhouse remained open to the public for 150 days during the season.
More than 1,500 people visited, whether that was enjoying a game or watching the action.
Much of this success was made possible by volunteers who gave up their time to coach newcomers, serve refreshments and keep the club running smoothly.
Their enthusiasm helped drive engagement across all age groups and contributed to one of the club’s most successful membership recruitment campaigns which saw 27 new members sign up, representing a fifth of total membership.
The figures tell and impressive story, but the real achievement lies in the enjoyment discovered by the community of Lyme Regis.
With such strong support from members and visitors the club would be delighted to see initiatives such as Sporting Lyme return in the future.
