Beach huts on the move: A well-oiled operation on the seafront

Essential beach hut maintenance on the seafront is continuing to make good progress, with several key stages now completed.

Over the past week, the council's external works team have successfully moved the beach huts forward towards the beach and cleared the area beneath and behind them of accumulated sand, stones and debris.

This work forms part of the council's annual beach hut maintenance programme and is designed to protect the huts and the seafront environment in the long term.

With the huts now repositioned, temporarily, the team have moved on to the next phase of the project, which includes improvements to drainage behind the huts. This work is intended to help manage surface water more effectively and reduce the risk of damp and water-related damage in future years.

The maintenance programme is time-sensitive, with beach hut hires due to reopen from 14 March. With just two weeks remaining in the scheduled maintenance period, the external works team have been working to a carefully planned timetable. Thanks to good organisation and teamwork, the operation has been delivered efficiently while continuing to maintain pedestrian access along the Cart Road throughout the works.

These improvements are part of the council's ongoing commitment to caring for its seafront assets and ensuring they remain safe, resilient and well maintained for residents and visitors alike.

We would like to thank residents and visitors for their patience while this important work takes place, and to recognise the hard work of the external team.
