Dorset is evolving and the choices we all make now will shape our towns, villages and countryside for the next 15 to 20 years.
To guide future development, Dorset Council are preparing a Local Plan and a Local Transport Plan. Every council must prepare a Local Plan as part of national policy, to help meet government-set housing targets. The plan guides how land will be used in the future, including:
- where new homes will be built
- where businesses can grow
- how Dorset's environment and green spaces are protected
Why does it matter?
Because it affects where you live, work, shop and spend your free time. The plan helps:
- provide homes that suit people's needs and keep Dorset's character
- create opportunities for jobs close to where people live
- protect Dorset's special environments while allowing for well-designed development in the right places
Dorset Council want to hear from residents and businesses from all across Dorset about what they are proposing. They want to hear from residents and businesses from all across Dorset about what they are proposing. They want your views on the sites they are considering for development.
Consultations run from 18 August to 13 October 2025.
You can view both plans at drop in events.
