Summer is settling over Lyme Regis and the council’s external works team are busy keeping the town looking its very best during one of the busiest times of the year.
The gardens across Langmoor and Lister are currently bursting with colour, with wildflowers reaching their peak and roses continuing to put on a spectacular display. To keep the beds looking their best, the team has been busy deadheading roses, weeding, mulching, mowing and watering throughout the warmer weather.
A new addition has recently appeared in the garden beds by the main gate entrance; a charming boat planter, kindly donated by a local resident, has found a new home among the floral displays.
While major projects take a back seat during the busy summer season, there is no shortage of work taking place behind the scenes.
The team continues to carry out regular maintenance and safety inspections, including beach hut checks, handrail inspections, light tree pruning to keep pathways clear, and routine maintenance of steps and seafront infrastructure.
The team was instrumental with hands-on help throughout our Midsummer Party in the Park event last month, helping to ensure everything went smoothly on the day for residents and visitors who enjoyed the afternoon and evening’s festivities.
If you take a stroll along Church Cliff, you may notice a new addition to the town’s growing sculpture trail. The external works’ team recently installed a brand-new sculpture by local artist Michael Fairfax, helping to extend the trail and add another point of interest to discover along Lyme Regis’ beautiful coastline.
The colourful garden lighting in Langmoor and Lister gardens continues to create a stunning evening display throughout the summer months.
Did you know the lighting can be customised to support local causes and community events? If your charity or organisation is planning a fundraising event or awareness campaign, the council may be able to illuminate the gardens in colours associated with your cause. Groups interested in finding out more are encouraged to get in touch.
If you’re looking to make the most of the warmer weather, don’t forget about the free outdoor gym equipment in the Lister Gardens. The facility is available for everyone to use and offers a fantastic way to stay active while enjoying some of the best views in town.
Another fun family activity is the ever-popular mini golf course and table tennis, which remains open throughout the summer season and continues to provide fun for all ages. Whether you are a competitive putter or simply looking for a family activity by the sea, it’s a great way to enjoy an affordable summer afternoon in Lyme Regis.
As always, the external works’ team continue to work hard behind the scenes to keep Lyme looking welcoming, safe and enjoyable for residents and visitors. There is never a quiet day, so while you walk along the seafront or through the gardens, take a moment to appreciate the work that goes on behind the scenes.
