THE therapeutic effects of gardening were enjoyed by those in Lyme Regis living with Parkinson’s.
Members of the Lyme Regis District Parkinson’s Support Group visited the Sculpture by the Lakes near Dorchester, in a change from their monthly sessions at the Powerboat Club.
The visit was inspired by the success of the award-winning Parkinson’s UK’s show garden, A Garden for Every Parkinson’s Journey, at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which highlighted the powerful benefits of spending time outdoors for people living with Parkinson’s.
The group of 16 garden lovers and two dogs enjoyed a peaceful day in Dorset’s only botanic garden, which includes a collection of more than 1,000 trees and shrubs and gifts and artworks by local artists in the Makers’ Yard and The Gallery.
Stephanie said: “It was a super, successful day. As a keen gardener myself, it’s easy to recognise how therapeutic gardening can be for someone living with Parkinson’s.
“But the day also underlined the fact that taking time out to simply slow down and relax can be equally beneficial”.
Lyme Regis District Parkinson’s Support Group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at Lyme Regis Powerboat Club from 2pm to 3.30pm.
The meet-ups include guest speakers, the opportunity to speak to others about their experiences, and refreshments.
