Lyme Regis businesses invited to get involved in Gateway Card relaunch

LYME Regis businesses are invited to get involved with the relaunch of the residents’ discount card.

Lyme Regis Town Council is relaunching the Gateway Card, which will be available to local residents, providing discounts, concessions and special offers at participating businesses.

The scheme was first introduced in 2017 and although it is still active, businesses have come and gone since then so it needs a fresh start.

It is hoped the Gateway Card can be relaunched before Christmas to help give businesses a boost during the festive season and offer shoppers some Christmas bargains.

The Gateway Card comes in two designs, created by pupils at Woodroffe School and St Michael’s Primary School, and these designs have been retained.

Cllr Cheryl Reynolds, chairman of the council’s Tourism, Community and Publicity Committee, said: “We hope as many local businesses as possible will decide to participate in the scheme and offer discounts and special offers to local residents.

“The aim is to reward local residents and to support local businesses by encouraging local shopping whenever possible.

“Many households will be struggling at the moment so any help we can give them, especially before Christmas, would be very welcome.”

The town council participates in the scheme by offering a 10% discount on beach hut bookings, a 50% discount on weddings at the Guildhall, and a 50% discount on mini golf, table tennis and the putting green.

Participating businesses will be encouraged to change their offers regularly to help attract customers and every business will be advertised on the council’s website.

The council will also promote a ‘Gateway Business of the Week’ and their latest offer on its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

Businesses will be encouraged to tailor their offers to the seasons or local events, so there could be a special offer for Christmas or Easter or a one-week only discount during Lifeboat Week for example.

The Gateway Card will be posted to every person on the register of Lyme Regis electors and anyone not on the register, including under 18s, can obtain a card from the council office with proof of a Lyme Regis address.

The new Gateway Card does not extend to Uplyme residents.
