MARK Green has been confirmed as the new town clerk in Lyme Regis.
Mark is the current deputy town clerk at Lyme Regis Town Council and was formally appointed by members at an extraordinary meeting of the Full Council.
He will take up the post on 10 September, replacing current town clerk John Wright, who resigned in May.
John leaves the organisation after 14 years, joining in 2012 as the deputy town clerk and being appointed as the town clerk less than a year later.
Mark joined the council as deputy town clerk in 2015, specialising in property and projects, planning and highways, and asset management.
Mark said: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed to the role of town clerk for Lyme Regis.
“Having worked in the town for more than 10 years and having been a frequent visitor since I was a small child, I know what a truly special place it is.
“I am privileged to be able to play my part in safeguarding the town's unique character while looking forward to an even better future.
“These are challenging but exciting times to take up the position. I will endeavour to work with the whole community and other partners to agree and deliver the town's shared priorities.”
The mayor, Cllr Philip Evans, was one of four members on the interview panel, alongside deputy mayor, Cllr Adrian Wood, chairman of the Human Resources Committee, Cllr Michaela Ellis, and deputy chairman of the Human Resources Committee, Cllr Gail Caddy.
Cllr Evans said: “The panel interviewed some exceptional candidates, but Mark Green was the clear candidate for the job. He brings with him not only 10 years of experience with our council and a wealth of knowledge and skills from this and past roles, but also an abundance of ideas for future improvements.
“I am confident that we made the right decision in appointing Mark and I look forward to working with him closely as mayor. His appointment has the full support of the members and the staff team and together, I believe we can take this council forward positively and with a new outlook.”
The mayor has also paid tribute to outgoing town clerk John Wright.
He said: “John has done an exceptional job at Lyme Regis Town Council, we have a lot to be grateful to him for. He has transformed the council in his time here, he has modernised it, introduced robust policies and procedures, brought new ideas and driven it forwards to the place we are in today.
“This council enjoys strong financial independence, it delivers projects, it supports community organisations and is constantly striving to make improvements, a lot of which is down to John’s leadership and management.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank him on behalf of members and staff, past and present, and myself personally for 14 years of loyal service. We wish him the very best in whatever comes next for him and his family.”
