Music, children’s activities and free food at Big Coronation Party

LIVE music, fun children’s activities, an exotic animal show and free food will be among the attractions at the Big Coronation Party in Lyme Regis.

The open-air party, hosted by Lyme Regis Town Council, is on Sunday 7 May at Lyme Regis Football Club, from 3pm to 10.30pm.

In the spirit of celebration and friendship, the community is invited to join together to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

The event kicks off at 3pm, when there will be a bouncy slide, inflatable obstacle course, a caricaturist and face painter, which will all be free.

Children will be able to have as many goes as they like on the slide and obstacle course, have their face painted with their favourite character or in a coronation theme, and have a caricature done to remind them of the day.

Mad 4 Animals will be live on stage at 3.30pm with their jungle critters and creepy crawlies including snakes, spiders and scorpions for a fun and exciting show.

This will be followed by an interactive session on the pitch, when children will have the opportunity to handle some of the exotic creatures.

The live music starts at 4.30pm with Under the Radar, followed at 6pm by Ghosts, etc, then at 7.30pm by Jess Upton and the Guilty Pleasures, and ending with headliners WeFunk at 9pm.

Rex the dinosaur will put in an appearance at 4.30pm, meeting the children and having his photograph taken with them.

Throughout the day there will be food available from the Whole Hog, Beach and Badger, Mr T BBQ Man and Alfie’s Catering.

Food is free for Gateway Card holders, including those with an Uplyme Shoppers’ card, and others can pay for their meals.

The drinks will be flowing all day from the outside bar provided by Lyme Regis Football Club.

Cllr David Ruffle, chairman of the council’s Coronation Working Group, said: “Lyme Regis Town Council is looking forward very much to welcoming all residents to the Big Coronation Party on Sunday.

“Free food, a bar, live music, children’s entertainment. A chance for us all come together and show people the spirit of Lyme.

“Dancing is optional but recommended! Please do come and join us and help us celebrate!”

The community is also invited to attend the Coronation Service at 11am on Sunday 7 May at St Michael’s Parish Church, when the mayoral party will process from the Guildhall to the church for the service.

Don’t miss Lyme Regis Town Band, who will play at the Coronation Service and will then perform a celebratory concert in the Marine Parade Shelters at 1.30pm.
