THE summer evening bus service between Lyme Regis and Bridport will be launched this evening.

Mayors and council representatives from all the towns and villages on the route will join the maiden journey from Bridport to Lyme Regis.

The LB1 service will run every Friday and Saturday night until Saturday 26 September between 6.15pm and 11.30pm.

The service will stop at Chideock, Morecombelake and Charmouth, with the first two buses from Bridport and the last bus from Lyme Regis also linking to the X53 service to and from Weymouth.

The mayor of Lyme Regis, Cllr Philip Evans and the mayor of Bridport, Cllr Anne Rickard will officially launch the service, before boarding the bus on its first journey to Lyme Regis.

Along the way, the bus will pick up Cllr Anna Dunn from Chideock Parish Council, Cllr Jane Gregory from Char Valley Parish Council, and Cllr Katie Moore from Charmouth Parish Council.

They will also be joined by Josef Davies-Coates, of West Dorset Commons, the organisation which spearheaded the launch of the project, working in partnership with Lyme Regis Town Council to secure a £20,000 grant from Western Gateway STB, the Sub-national Transport Body for the West of England.

The service will be run by First Bus, using its well-known double deckers, capable of transporting more than 90 people at a time.

The maximum adult single fare will be £3, with journeys under three miles costing £2.40, and children's single fare tickets will be £1.50.

All valid passes, included the national concessionary bus pass for older people and eligible disabled passengers will be accepted.
