Lyme Regis schoolchildren have been learning how to lead safe and healthy lives with the help of town council funding.
Life Education Wessex, which provides health, wellbeing and drugs’ education to young people, spent two days at St Michael’s Primary School with its mobile classroom.
The organisation aims to provide children with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence to make healthy choices and avoid risky behaviours.
Town councillors Richard Doney and Sean Larcombe joined the year 5 pupils for their session on ‘friends’ and presented Life Education Wessex with a cheque for £325.
The grant contributed to the cost of bringing the Life Bus to the school for its annual visit.
Life Education Wessex’s operations and fundraising administrator, Lynn Clements, said: “We believe that all children deserve to lead safe and healthy lives.
“By placing preventative education at the core of our work we aim to instil in children the confidence to make safer and healthier choices now and in the future.
“The schools we visit contribute approximately half of the cost of their visits so we are reliant on local sources to provide the additional funding.
“We would like to thank Lyme Regis Town Council for their continued support which enables us to deliver important messages to local children in a fun, interactive and memorable way.”
Sessions in the Life Bus are tailored to each age group, with themes including the human body, feelings, and decision-making.
Cllr Richard Doney said: “It’s about helping young people grow up and feeling confident to be able to face the challenges of modern life.
“Having sat in on a session, I can appreciate the value of this programme, which was demonstrated by the reactions of the children attending.”
Cllr Sean Larcombe, who is also a parent of two pupils at St Michael’s, said he enjoyed the session he attended.
He said: “It was very enlightening. All the children took part and shared their thoughts and ideas.”
