CAMPAIGNERS in Lyme Regis will take to the water once again this May in protest of clean rivers and clean seas.

The Paddle-Out Protest is a nationwide campaign led by the activists at Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and building on the last two successful events in Lyme Regis, the protest returns to Lyme’s sandy beach on Saturday 16 May.

Surfers Against Sewage has long been at the forefront of environmental activism, encouraging coastal communities to demand action against sewage pollution.

The event is supported by River Lim Action Group, whose work continues to shine a light on local water quality issues, and the area representative for the local Surfers Against Sewage group, Simon Bones.

Campaigners from across the country will join together at their own local events and people in Lyme Regis are encouraged to get involved.

This year SAS are encouraging those in our local community who love the water, to stand together, wax up those surfboards, paint those placards, grab those rafts, get in the water and paddle out in protest for this national day of action to put pressure on the Government, the regulators and the water companies and end the sewage scandal.

Organisers of the Lyme Regis paddle out protest are aiming to meet at 11.30am to be ready to enter the sea at midday.

This year brings a unique opportunity to influence a huge change within the water industry.

In England and Wales, the Government will be bringing in a new Water Bill, and SAS urge those passionate about cleaner rivers and seas to show the huge support behind this campaign to end sewage pollution.

If you are paddling out, you will need to bring something you are comfortable paddling out in, such as swimsuits, wetsuits and gloves.

Additionally, if you have one and are able to bring it with you, surfboards, paddle boards, floats and rafts are encouraged.
